If you’ve never owned a Kindle, you might be wondering whether it’s right for you. No worries, I had always wondered the same thing.
So last summer, I finally invested in a Kindle Paperwhite. And it has been a game-changer for multiple reasons. And I’ve rounded up all the top reasons why you should buy a Kindle.
- Convenience
- Cheap & Free books
- A library in the palm of your hand
- Built-in dictionary
- Water Proof
- Paper-like display
- Long Lasting Battery
- Robust
Convenience – Get Your Books On the Go!
With a Kindle, you can carry thousands of books with you wherever you go, without worrying about the weight or space that physical books take up. This makes it an ideal device for travelers or commuters who want to keep themselves entertained during long journeys. I have a nearly 2-hour commute to/from work, and my Kindle follows me every day.
I like to keep my books in my bedroom. But my bedroom is a bit small, and several bookshelves are already lining up against the walls. So, I don’t have room for more printed books. I have to remove a book if I want to buy a new one. But with a kindle, I could buy as many eBooks as I like.
Cheap & Free books
Most eBooks are significantly cheaper than paper books. And there are many free books available in the kindle store.
You can also download a sample and read a portion of the book before deciding whether or not to purchase the full version. The sample usually includes the first few chapters of the book. This feature is a great way to preview books and determine if they’re worth buying.
Whenever I go to a bookshop nowadays, and come across a book that seems interesting, I take a photo of the book and come home to check it on my kindle. This way I can download a sample and read a few chapters before actually buying it. Life is too short for bad books.
A library in the palm of your hand

The Kindle Store offers a vast library of e-books, including bestsellers, classics, and self-published works. It is one of the largest e-book stores in the world, with millions of titles available for download. The store offers e-books in a variety of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, romance, sci-fi, and children’s books, to name a few.
Built-in dictionary
Do you ever come across words that you don’t understand while reading?
If you’re reading a book, you often have to figure out the meaning from context. Or by flipping through a heavy dictionary or searching online for the definition of an unfamiliar word.
With the Kindle’s built-in dictionary, you can simply press and hold down on the word and its definition will appear at the bottom of the page.
But wait, it gets even better. The Kindle’s dictionary also offers a feature called “Smart Lookup” that allows you to access additional information about the word, such as synonyms, Wikipedia entries, and more.
So the next time you come across an unfamiliar word, simply tap it and let the Kindle’s built-in dictionary be your guide!
Water Proof
Imagine that You’re lounging by the pool, sipping a cocktail, and enjoying your latest book. Suddenly, your clumsy friend spills their drink all over your precious Kindle! Don’t panic, because, with a waterproof Kindle, you don’t have to worry about a thing.
And it’s not just about protecting your device from accidental spills or splashes. With a waterproof Kindle, you can take your reading to new places, like the beach or the bathtub.
If you’re an avid traveler, you can now read on the beach or by the pool without worrying about damaging your Kindle. And if you’re a busy parent, you can even read while supervising your little ones in the bathtub.
Technically, you could also read a Kindle underwater, as it is designed to withstand being submerged in water for about 60 minutes. But, I don’t recommend doing this for obvious reasons 😅
Paper-like display
The Kindle’s paper-like display is designed to replicate the experience of reading a physical book.
It gives no extra strain to the eye compared to a paperback, which is why
I recommend a Kindle over reading on your phone or tablet. I can read for hours on my Kindle.
The paper-like display also makes reading on the Kindle more enjoyable. The text appears crisp and clear, and the pages turn smoothly and quickly.
You can also adjust the font size and screen brightness to customize your reading experience. This is especially useful when reading outdoors or at night.
Long Lasting Battery
Ok, this is one of the best features I Love about the kindle. With a single charge, a Kindle can last for weeks or even months, depending on how often you use it. I usually use it for 2-3 weeks before charging again. And it usually only takes about 1 or 2 hours for a full charge.
Robust
Kindles are pretty robust devices, and I’ve been using the same one for a couple of years now.
These have scratch-resistant glass, that is designed to withstand bumps, drops, and scratches. This means that even if you accidentally drop your Kindle, it is unlikely to suffer any damage that would affect its performance.
With proper care, a Kindle can last for many years.
So No more Paper books?

Of course, if you do decide to buy a Kindle, it doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to physical books forever.
After all, physical books offer a tactile and visual experience that can’t be replicated by a Kindle. Plus, there’s something special about browsing through a bookstore and discovering a new book to add to your collection.
In fact, the kindle & the paper books can live harmoniously, side by side, each serving a different purpose. So why not embrace both and enjoy the best of both worlds?
A Kindle offers the best way to read ebooks for the majority of readers. They’re pretty easy to use, have a compact design so, you can carry them anywhere, has a long battery life, and have a fantastic paper-like screen. And they’re pretty affordable too.
Overall, if you’re a book lover, the Kindle is one of the best products you can buy.
